Hydrogen batteries
22 March 2005Development and adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technology in cars has been moving slowly and companies have technology that can be used now, so, some are shifting to markets where the performance of their fuel cells outweighs the cost. Millennium Cell Inc. once felt their technology would be adapted for automotive use but now their [...]
Commitment barriers to the hydrogen economy
21 March 2005Leaders in the hydrogen industry speaking at the European hydrogen and fuel cell technology platform in Brussels believe commitment is the key barrier to the hydrogen economy. They go so far as to say “barriers to the hydrogen economy are no longer economic, technical or related to the development of infrastructure.” Commitment seems to mean [...]
Practical fuel cells
20 March 2005Yesterday’s post indicates some scepticism over the practicality of fuel cells yet the ENV, introduced recently, shows the technology is more advanced than some would think. We may find advances coming at a more rapid pace if companies focus on efforts like this instead of spending too much time worrying about the obstacles. A brochure [...]
Are fuel cells too complex?
19 March 2005A professor at Princeton makes the point that fuel cells are complex devices that may not be well suited for use in cars. He suggests they may be ideal for other application such as power supplementation to wind and solar systems. He also cites the problem of producing hydrogen necessary for fuel cell operation.
If you [...]
Residential fuel cell installed in Canada
19 March 2005A solid oxide fuel cell system was installed at the Canadian Centre for Housing Technology to simulate a typical residential installation and to gather data about fuel cell performance.
The five-kilowatt SOFC system will run on natural gas and uses tubular solid oxide technology developed by Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation. The second-generation system features important improvements [...]
