New York getting hydrogen filling stations

18 March 2005 by Hydrogen Power

GM Hydrogen3New York will be getting hydrogen filling stations as a result of a partnership with General Motors and Shell Hydrogen, LLC. GM will provide hydrogen vehicles and Shell will provide the hydrogen stations at existing Shell stations in the New York City area.

This is another move in the direction of establishing the essential infrastructure that’s required before fuel cell vehicles can be adopted in larger numbers.

Shell already has a hydrogen-refueling site in operation at a Shell station in Washington D.C. When another site is built between Washington D.C. and New York, the foundation for an “East Coast Corridor ” will be established. The “East Coast Corridor” is similar to the California Hydrogen Highway, which places fuel cell fleets in concentrated areas to help toward early adoption of the new technology.
